Similar to the Velmex Tree Ring System, the Petrographic Analysis Positioning System aids in analyzing the aggregate or particle composition, and air entrainment or voids in concrete. This positioning system is usually comprised of a 2-axis (XY) stage and can be manually-operated or motorized or a combination thereof. The system can be used to aid in analyzing concrete, asphalt, sediment, soil or other similar materials. It is used in a number of research labs and higher education labs around the globe.
The System delivers accuracy with increased durability and compactness at an affordable price.
System Components*
The Velmex Petrographic Positioning System consists of the following components:

1. An XY Assembly – usually a UniSlide® assembly, available in several travel lengths. Waycovers to keep the concrete dust and dirt from contaminating the slide are an option available on the UniSlide® assembly. Waycovers cannot be used in conjunction with encoders.
2. One micron (0.001mm) resolution linear encoder integrated to the UniSlide® or BiSlide® assembly.
3.Velmex VRO™ Encoder Readout for connection to the linear encoder and interface serially to a computer for measurement recording/logging.
AXY25 Series Manual XY Tables
Three low profile models featuring an unobstructed work platform with a travel range of up to 4″ by 4″ (10.2 cm x 10.2 cm). Available with or without a center window / aperture.
AXY40 Series Manual XY Tables
This series features two models with a travel range of up to 5″ by 5″ (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm). These models feature a large, unobstructed work platform. Standard lead screw advance is 0.100″/revolution. Other finer and coarser screws are available.
AXY60 Series Manual XY Tables
Three high profile models with a travel range of up to 9″ by 9″ (22.9 cm x 22.9 cm). These models feature a large, unobstructed work platform. Standard lead screw advance is 0.100″/revolution. Other finer and coarser screws are available.
BiSlide® Way Covers
Way Covers protect the slider and dovetail base from dust, dirt and grit that could hamper the efficient operation of the slide, thereby extending the life of the slide.

Two medium profile models with a travel range of up to 5″ by 5″ (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm). These models feature a large, unobstructed work surface. Available in a variety of lead screw pitches.
MAXY60 Series Motorized XY Tables
Three high profile models with a travel range of up to 9″ by 9″ (22.9 cm x 22.9 cm). These models feature a large, unobstructed work surface. Available in a variety of lead screw pitches.
UniSlide® Way Covers

VRO™ Encoder Readout
The Velmex VRO™ Encoder Readout is a compact one or two axes digital readout for linear and rotary incremental encoders.
VXC™ Stepper Motor Controller
The new VXC is a plug and play microstepping motor controller / driver with the ability to run up to 4 axes simultaneously. This easy to setup bipolar controller has the ability to be run standalone, or be integrated into a system.
BiSlide® Revolution Counter (-12, -13, -14, -15)
The mechanical counter provides a convenient lead screw revolution count. This aids in determining position and providing a reference number for the location of the carriage / slider.
BiSlide® Scale on Base
The BiSlide® Scale on Base option includes a precision engraved English or Metric scale on the assembly base.
