Recommended Velmex BiSlide® Cleat Placement

Mounting a BiSlide® Assembly to a Work Surface

BiSlide® assemblies are typically mounted to a surface using the BiSlide® cleat system, which ensures secure and stable positioning. For optimal performance and to avoid binding, the mounting surface should be flat and rigid—steel or aluminum is recommended. A smooth, level surface helps the stage operate accurately and reliably.

For heavy loads, begin with two pairs of cleats (four total) and add one additional pair for every 5 inches of travel. Lighter loads generally require fewer cleats.

The MC-2 is the standard two-hole cleat, suitable for mounting a BiSlide® to a surface, frame, or base. For optical applications, the MC-3 cleat is designed to align with optical benches featuring 1″ or 25mm hole spacing, making it ideal for precision setups.

The BiSlide® Assembly base should be mounted with Velmex MC cleats to a reasonably flat surface. Inaccuracies and binding can result if mounted to non-flat surfaces. Mounting surface should be steel or aluminum and have 1/4-20 UNC threaded holes with a minimum thread depth of 0.30”

BiSlide Cleating Recommendations Table

Refer to the BiSlide® User’s Manual and table above for cleat placement.

Use cleats in pairs with a pair 1.2” from each end to first mounting hole. All other cleats should be equally spaced between them. Use more cleats for heavy off-center (cantilever) loads and for more rigidity. Each pair has 425 lbs. of holding capability.

Attach cleats with Velmex MB-1 bolts or equal grade 8 bolts. Start with bolts finger tight and then tighten bolts progressively alternating sides and diagonals. Finish by tightening bolts to 95 in-lbs.

Thread locking compound (Loctite) is recommended for all mounting bolts.

BiSlide Cleat and T-Slot Mounting Options

The BiSlide® can also be mounted on it’s side using bolts or nuts in the T-slots.
